Almond Float is one of the favorite desserts in Hawaii. In Cantonese, this refreshing treat is called hing-yun tofu, almond tofu. Jelly with the taste of white almonds in a fruit cocktail of your favorite fruit. If you want a juicy, light treat that will refresh you on hot summer days, then be sure to try the Hawaiian Almond float.
- 2 tbsp gelatin
- 3 1/4 cups water
- 1 cup evaporated milk
- 1 1/2 cup milk
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 tbsp almond extract
- Blueberries, blackberries, peach compote, mint leaves
- The first step in the preparation of this delicious dessert is Soften gelatin in100 ml of water.
- Heat the remaining water, evaporated milk, milk, and sugar. Stir until sugar dissolves.
- When all the ingredients are combined and the sugar has melted into the mixture add the softened gelatin, and mix well, then add the almond extract.
- Pour into a pan and chill until firm, about 2 h or as needed and more. The height of the flan should be about 2 cm.
- Cut gelatin into nice cubes, carefully place in serving dishes.
- Add peach compote, juice and pieces of peach. Flan will soak up any flavors you add. Add the blueberries, blackberries or fruits you like.
Almond Float introduction
Culinary history points to almond tofu that originated in China. Originally, agar-agar was used as a coagulant to which finely ground almonds were added, resulting in a silky gelatinous pudding of similar texture that looks like silk soy tofu. As dessert developed in the Western world, these ingredients were replaced with gelatin powder, light cow’s milk cream, and almond extract.
Almond Float is also a refreshing snack that you can cool off during the hot summer days, and with the addition of granola or cereal float you can also serve as breakfast.
