Asparagus is a spring vegetable and pairs perfectly with other spring vegetables, such as peas, new potatoes, etc. It is a well-loved vegetable- crisp and sweet! It is a highly nutritious vegetable and can be eaten raw or cooked.
Whether blanched, roasted, or cooked, they are equally delicious and healthy in every way. However, as much as we love asparagus, it is bad to buy it in bulk because it goes bad within a few days!

Fresh and raw asparagus stays good in the fridge for 3-5 days. To store it for a longer timespan, cover them in a moist paper towel or keep it in an airtight jar; this will help keep this veggie good and fresh for almost 2 weeks. If you have kept them in the freezer, they can last for a month.
Tip: If you want asparagus to last for a longer time, choose the best and most fresh bunch from the supermarket or grocery store.
The following tips will tell you when is the right time to know if asparagus has gone bad and to discard it right away:
- It has become soft and mushy: One of the ways to know if asparagus has gone bad is that it will become moist and mushy. First, the veggie tips would darken and go limp, and then it would become wrinkly. So when you touch asparagus, and it is soft and mushy, you should discard it right away!
- If black spots occur on it: If you notice any fuzzy action on the spears or if there are black spots everywhere on the veggie, then it has gone bad, and you throw it now!
- It smells bad and funky: Usually, asparagus doesn’t have any smell- it’s mild. So if you smell any off or funky odor, that means that asparagus is bad now, so just throw it right away!
