Also known as Jameson Green Tea, the green tea shot is a classic whiskey-based cocktail served with peach schnapps. It’s a great way to kick off your weekend and get into the fall spirit! But, before you settle on how to make a green tea shot, we did some research that might help you make the perfect shot.
A mixologist might give you a quizzical look at the mention of this simple drink. Regardless, the drink’s simplicity lies in the balance of its sweet and sour flavors that can be refreshing after a tedious day.
Green tea is also known as Jameson tea because it was first produced in 1884 by a Japanese company called The Jamesons Ltd. They used the name Green Tea (Kōcha) to make this drink and other varieties of tea from Japan at that time, including Sencha (a dryer type), Gyokuro (a more expensive grade), and Usuzumi (a very high-quality grade).
How to Make a Green Tea Shot
You’d be surprised to know that the green tea shot does not contain any green tea. It gets its name from the yellowish-green color. Are you wondering how to make a green tea shot? It’s simple. You only need four simple ingredients.
- Sour Mix
- Peach Schnapps
- Lemon or Lime Soda
- Jameson Whiskey
The classic recipe calls for the original Jameson whiskey, paying tribute to the original inventors of the drink. However, you can also substitute the whiskey with your choice of Irish, American, or Japanese whiskey.
Make sure you top your shot with a splash of lime soda or lemon to dissolve some of the intensity. It will also add sweetness to the drink and initiate a carbonate reaction, giving it more balanced flavors. Although the drink has the word ‘shot’ in it, you don’t necessarily have to down it in one go. Most people prefer 4 to 5 sips.
Making the green tea shot is super easy and fun. You can easily make it at home with the ingredients mentioned above.
