5OzCubed, silken tofu (you can use firm tofu as well)
3tbspCornstarch
Salt to taste
1tspBlack pepper
½tspGarlic powder (optional)
Extra virgin olive oil to taste (but if you plan on deep frying the tofu, you will need a skillet with enough oil to fry)
Sweet and sour tofu sauce:
2tbspSugar(any kind you want)
1tbspTomato paste or ketchup
½tbspApple cider vinegar
½tsp Soy sauce
3tbspwater (50 ml) or as required because the consistency of sauce depends on your likeness
1-2tspCornstarch
1Carrot, chopped (optional
½Green bell pepper, chopped (optional)
½Onion, chopped (optional)
Note: you can add as many or as few vegetables as you want
Instructions
For the Sweet and Sour crispy tofu
Press and tear the tofu into 1-2 inch pieces. Add the soy sauce and all the dry ingredients and toss well to coat. Make sure all the pieces are covered completely.
Heat a pan over medium-high heat, and add the oil. Fry all the pieces for 6-8minutes until golden brown and crisp. Or, if you want to make it more healthy, you can sauté or pan fry the cubes in a little olive oil till the tofu gets crisp.
Sweet and Sour Silken Tofu Sauce
Take the tofu out of the pan and in the same pan, toss in all the chopped veggies ,and sauté them.
Take another bowl. Put the sugar, tomato paste, vinegar, water, soy sauce, and garlic powder in it and whisk well until combined. (You can thicken the sauce as you like).
Mix the sauce with the veggies and add the crispy tofu to it. Stir well to combine and simmer for 5 minutes or until the sauce thickens up a little.
Take it off the stove and garnish it with sesame seeds or chopped scallions.
Serve while hot!
